AsiaConnect Anti-Racism Working Group

AsiaConnect Anti-Racism Working Group was formed in response to the growing Anti-Asian hate crimes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our commitment to anti-racism is very important in a time when the United States fight against systemic racism. We need to stand together with other BIPOC faculty, staff, students, and community members.

On March 26, 2021, in response to the Atlanta mass shooting, we organized the first virtual event “Stop Asian Hate: Anti-Asian Violence and Racialized Experiences of Asians and Asian Americans” with 200+ participants. We co-sponsored a community vigil with Not In Our Town and Not In Our School in April. We organized a book club during Summer 2021 and read The Making of Asian America by Erika Lee. In Fall 2021, we organized a listening circle in collaboration with the Not In Our Town and Not In Our School.

On March 29, 2022, we’re offering a virtual event “Racial Discrimination against Asians and Asian American and Mental Health during the COVID-19 Pandemic”. We hope to offer many more opportunities to learn about racialized experiences of Asians and Asian Americans.
